Steve Marschilok

Harris Corp. has won a $34 million contract with St. Mary?s County, Md. to deploy a new county-wide public safety radio network for first responders, the company announced Tuesday.

Under the agreement, St. Mary?s will acquire the Harris Project 25 Phase 2 standards-based radio system which is expected to deliver greater coverage for voice and data communications across the county?s 764 square miles.

In addition, Harris will provide long-term service and support maintenance to the new public safety radio system that supports interoperability with neighboring agencies regardless of frequency band.

Steve Marschilok, president, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications said the system will help the county modernize their current communications and meets the?big challenge of expanding coverage area across the county.

The Harris P25 Phase 2 system will bring an efficient and cost-effective migration path from Saint Mary?s County?s current Harris Enhanced Digital Access Communication System, according to Harris.

Harris said the 10-channel, 800MHZ P25 Phase 2 systems will provide reliable radio capabilities for law enforcement, fire and EMS agencies.
