Get Great Advice On Home Improvement Projects | Just What Are ...

It is well worthwhile to come up with plans for any major home improvements in order to avoid making an upgrade that is unsafe. The cost is worth it just for the peace of mind it will give you! It will also make it easier to prove to potential buyers that the upgrades were done right when you are ready to sell your home.

Prior to any interior painting, wipe them down with a slightly damp cloth to get rid of dust, dirt and oils that may be sitting on your walls. This allows the paint to adhere to the wall and might even spare you the hassle of applying an additional coat of paint or frequent touch-ups.

Try composting to help reduce the waste your house produces. It is simple to start a composting pile by setting aside a spot in your yard and placing used coffee grounds, vegetable peels and eggshells into it. This compost pile lowers the quantity of your trash, which can help save your money if you pay by the bag for your waste removal service.

Wallpaper and varnish lets you make a quick and easy back-splash in your kitchen. Begin by purchasing wallpaper with a design that you love. Measure the wall space you have and cut a larger paper. Put on the paste and wait until it gets tacky to the touch. Hang your wallpaper and then smooth out bubbles. Then, you are ready to trim those edges to get the best fit. Once the wallpaper sets, you can use a brush to apply varnish. Have fun with your brand new, inexpensive back-splash.

When pre-planning your project, define a space where you are comfortable to place the resulting debris. You will create a giant mess, and you have to get rid of it. Your project will go more smoothly (and be safer to work on!) if you set aside a place for debris in advance instead of letting it pile up and get in the way.

Plan any landscaping to complement your home. A patio and garden that match your house?s style will be a coherent, integrated overall look, but when you clash styles, it may look unplanned and unattractive.

Paint your home?s entrance and get a newer welcome mat. Your front entrance is the portal to your home and it is the first impression that guests get of your home. A few nice touches, such as an attractive plant or a charming welcome mat, serve to make a great impression on people coming to your home.

Turn off the water prior to renovating a kitchen or bathroom. There are all too many homeowners out there who have had to deal with expensive, disastrous flooding because they forgot this fairly commonsense precaution.

There are many things that ?home improvement? means and most anyone can afford to do. You may not have the money to give the home a complete overhaul, but you can give it a face lift by undertaking one smaller project at a time.

One home improvement project that can make a dramatic difference in your home?s appearance and attractiveness is to go for a full exterior paint job. Exterior paint can greatly improve the look and value of your home. With the right color and look, you might think you got a new home!

Some home improvement projects are harder than others. In fact, some jobs may seem simple to complete. However, if you don?t know how to do them correctly, you can cause damage to your home. What you have just read above offers some great improvement tips. Utilize them to your best benefit.

Facebook allowed to triple size of its HQ, pays $10 million for the priviledge

Swollen with cash following its IPO, Facebook is looking to expand its headquarters in Menlo Park. Its plan to triple its workforce there from 2,200 to 6,600 people was approved by local officials last night, removing the previous cap that allowed a maximum of 3,600 messy, resource-consuming humans. In lieu of the added burden on the city, Facebook will have to contribute $850,000 per year for ten years, plus a one-time payment of $1,000,000. The start of a surge towards greater products and profits, or the beginning of a complacent corporate decline? We'll let the stock market decide.

No-Fuss Commercial Real Estate Systems

Commercial real estate sales can be a very rewarding career choice. The great part about selling retail property is that there is always a market for business. Businesses are constantly coming and going, unlike the residential real estate market that can get very slow and not make any money.

Full service commercial real estate brokers serve as agents for buyers and sellers, as well as buyer-only representatives. You will definitely benefit from utilizing the skills that a buyer representative has to offer to you. They will provide you with the control that you need on the commercial market.

Utilities are an important part of a company?s expense. Ask the landlord whether they are measured individually or apportioned by square footage. To be sure you know what you are getting into, ask for a sample of the previous tenant?s utility bill. Avoid costly surprises by asking the right questions before you sign the lease.

To find a honest real estate broker firm, ask them how they make most of their money. They should be able to discuss the question openly and tell you that their best interest differs from yours. Make sure you understand how they are going to benefit from the transaction that they will take care of for you.

If you will be including utilities in your tenant?s rent, be sure to know the cost of those utilities before setting the rental amount. It can sometimes be easy to under estimate the cost of heat in the winter or air conditioning in the summer. Water bills can also vary by area. Having an accurate picture of utilities can keep you from under pricing your property. Browse Check HERE for clear opinion.

If you have a commercial property to sell, make sure that you put in on the market while it is active. The prices of commercial real estate go up and down often depending on the state of the economy. If you sell while things are in an upswing you can expect to make large profits.

Try and do your best to find a real estate agent that specializes in dealing with the commercial real estate buying and selling process. Someone who is used to working with residential real estate will not know as much about the process and that will only make the process more difficult.

You always need to know what you?re doing. That?s not anything you don?t already know. What you might not have known prior to this article, however, was how you could use simple common-sense tips and tactics to achieve in the commercial real estate market. Now the rest is up to you to make it happen.

The Advantages of Getting The Cheapest Web Hosting Online ...

?

New web entrepreneurs show up every day and the requirement for inexpensive annual web hosting plans is rising. Some beginners check out inexpensive host to get a hang of how website hosting, domain registration, and other complex stuff of web marketing works. Experienced net marketers use such hosting plans to host multiple sites to maximize their profits. These experienced online marketers will tell you one thing inexpensive hosting is crazily money making if you understand exactly what to do.

Host Multiple Web sites with one account folks who make allegations of thousands of dollars of monthly revenue thru net have a few lots of web sites hosted in inexpensive servers. They have the trick of finding web hosts that permit 10, 50 or even more sites in one account at a fixed rate. One server is sufficient to host multiple internet sites.

Some servers can even handle thousands of web sites. Each internet site is a money maker whether or not it is hosted on an inexpensive server. The multiple web sites make profits for the entrepreneurs in the shape of associate sales, AdSense clicks, display adverts, and there are other types of programs that you can find to help you with making profits. They can be using these inexpensive sites to push their main business web site.

Start Out in Style When you start an individual blogs at yourname.com, it?s not cost effective to pay for a dedicated server. Your Word Press blog can stay with 1 or 2 dozen others. Though this sounds hazardous, it isn?t so. Web hosts, even the least expensive ones will look after their servers. They keep it safe with necessary antivirus tools, anti-spamming measures and other security features. This will also give you the chance to learn how to blog so in time you can start making some serious money with blogging.

The web hosts are responsible parties and they?re going to keep the web sites hosted with them safe. With some cases like dealing with Blogger.com, you can host your private web site or blog even for free in Google?s servers. The drawback for free hosting is they lack even the basic features like ftp access. Technology Makes Hosting Inexpensive Developments in technology basically made website hosting less expensive much less expensive than it was five-ten years back.

With advanced technologies, web hosts can offer you hosting space at extraordinarily inexpensive rates and still turn a profit. The single thing is they cap the web space and bandwidth. As your net traffic and business grow, it?s often possible to buy more server space and bandwidth. Another idea is that you can have a look for other inexpensive plans that offer more server space and bandwidth. If you look at these offers closely, you can see you can run an internet business at less than $10 every month.

After you know your business is going up, it is often possible to buy more of inexpensive annual hosting programs or hosting plans for 3 or 5 years. This could further reduce per-month hosting costs. Read the Small Print It is alluring to fall for the least expensive website hosting offers. It?s also simple to think an offer is too fantastic to be right. Both habits are not good for business. With some patient research, you can actually find great host offering inexpensive services.

Always read the small print and get details of upkeep schedule. Regardless of what your business is, you want more than 99% up time. Understand the T&Cs you agreed to. The point is, don?t leap right into conclusions. Read and learn what you get for what you pay. Enroll in inexpensive annual packages only after you know precisely what you get and what you?re going to do with them.

Too much vitamin D can be as unhealthy as too little

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Scientists know that Vitamin D deficiency is not healthy. However, new research from the University of Copenhagen now indicates that too high a level of the essential vitamin is not good either. The study is based on blood samples from 247,574 Copenhageners. The results have just been published in the reputed scientific Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Vitamin D is instrumental in helping calcium reach our bones, thus lessening the risk from falls and the risk of broken hips. Research suggests that vitamin D is also beneficial in combating cardiac disease, depression and certain types of cancers. The results from a study conducted by the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences now support the benefits of vitamin D in terms of mortality risk. However, the research results also show higher mortality in people with too high levels of vitamin D in their bloodstream:

"We have had access to blood tests from a quarter of a million Copenhageners. We found higher mortality in people with a low level of vitamin D in their blood, but to our surprise, we also found it in people with a high level of vitamin D. We can draw a graph showing that perhaps it is harmful with too little and too much vitamin D," explains Darshana Durup, PhD student.

If the blood contains less than 10 nanomol (nmol) of vitamin per liter of serum, mortality is 2.31 times higher. However, if the blood contains more than 140 nmol of vitamin per liter of serum, mortality is higher by a factor of 1.42. Both values are compared to 50 nmol of vitamin per liter of serum, where the scientists see the lowest mortality rate.

More studies are needed

Darshana Durup emphasises that while scientists do not know the cause of the higher mortality, she believes that the new results can be used to question the wisdom of those people who claim that you can never get too much vitamin D:

"It is important to conduct further studies in order to understand the relationship. A lot of research has been conducted on the risk of vitamin D deficiency. However, there is no scientific evidence for a 'more is better' argument for vitamin D, and our study does not support the argument either. We hope that our study will inspire others to study the cause of higher mortality with a high level of vitamin D," says Darshana Durup. She adds:

"We have moved into a controversial area that stirs up strong feelings just like debates on global warming and research on nutrition. But our results are based on a quarter of a million blood tests and provide an interesting starting point for further research."

The largest study of its kind

The study is the largest of its kind ? and it was only possible to conduct it because of Denmark's civil registration system, which is unique in the Nordic countries. The 247,574 blood samples come from the Copenhagen General Practitioners Laboratory:

"Our data material covers a wide age range. The people who participated had approached their own general practitioners for a variety of reasons and had had the vitamin D level in their bloodstream measured in that context. This means that while the study can show a possible association between mortality and a high level of vitamin D, we cannot as yet explain the higher risk," explains Darshana Durup.

Therefore in future research project scientists would like to compare the results with information from disease registers such as the cancer register. Financial support is currently being sought for such projects.

Mexican Auto Insurance for San Diego travelers!

Mexican Insurance for San Diego travelers!

Posted on Sun, May 27, 2012 @ 11:55 AM

http://mexicaninsurancestore.com - Mexican Auto Insurance and Mexican Insurance Travel Blog For Driving South Of the Border!

Mexican Auto Insurance,Mexican Insurance

Question: I recently moved to San Diego. I have cousins who live in Guadalajara, and I have a few other friends and relatives elsewhere in Mexico as well. I plan to be driving down to Mexico fairly often. What's the cheapest way to get decent Mexican auto insurance?

Answer: It's smart to be making these plans ahead of time. You'll love living in San Diego, California; getting to Mexico is so easy! It's even easier when you have the right Mexican insurance for San Diego travelers. People who don't go to Mexico too often generally buy their policies at the border or online. You should avoid buying Mexican auto insurance for San Diego residents at the border at all costs. It's overpriced and often lower in quality. The Internet is the best place to get Mexican insurance for San Diego travelers, but what do you do if you go to Mexico all the time?

Although buying Mexico car insurance for San Diego vacationers online is a snap, you're sure to get pretty tired of it after doing it again and again. That's why you should consider yearly coverage instead. With so many friends and relatives in Mexico, you'll probably be driving around down there several days out of the month. It would be worth your while to consider annual Mexican insurance for San Diego residents.

Once you've invested in yearly Mexican insurance for San Diego travelers, you won't have to worry about it again for a full year. Any time you want to go to Mexico, you'll be able to hop in your car and go. Barring any holdups at the border, you'll be down in Mexico in no time. Many San Diego residents have yearly Mexican insurance policies. It makes sense financially, and it's a lot more convenient too.

Don't rule out annual Mexican auto insurance for San Diego residents before getting a quote. Most people are really blown away by how cheap it is. It's easy to assume that 365 days of coverage will cost 365 times as much as a daily policy, but that's not the case at all. In fact, you will get a really great discount by purchasing yearly insurance. That's particularly true if you buy your policy online, which is what you should definitely do. Once you've found the right policy, you'll just have to pay for it and print it out. Keep a copy in your glove box, and fold another one up and keep it in your wallet. That's all there is to it!

Campbell River Mayor keeps up war of words on staff

Mayor Walter Jakeway says city hall is wasting taxpayers? money.

Jakeway, the keynote speaker at the noon hour Rotary Club?s weekly luncheon, had some tough words for senior city staff.

?City hall is an example of how they?re doing it in the least effective way,? Jakeway told Rotarians gathered at the Discovery Inn Wednesday afternoon. ?City staff say how hard they?re working; do I care how hard they?re working? No, I don?t, if the results aren?t there.

?Wasting hard-earned taxpayers? money is not acceptable to me,? Jakeway continued. ?I didn?t run to leave things how they are, I ran to shake it up.?

Jakeway, who was elected mayor last November, ran his election campaign on a zero per cent tax increase platform. After council chose last month to increase residential property taxes by 13.6 per cent, Jakeway advocated for a public tax revolt.

He maintains the tax increase could have been avoided had council chose to cut city staff.

Jakeway says he spoke to Mayor Dan Ashton of Penticton, a community similar in size to Campbell River, about staffing levels while at the inaugural B.C. Mayors? Caucus last week.

?Penticton in the last two years has shed 31 people,? Jakeway said. ?Penticton started at the top and worked their way down.

?Campbell River must do the same. It?s currently bogged down by the same old habits.?

Jakeway said things will never change at city hall if the same senior city managers remain at the helm.

?The 2012 Campbell River city budget process was a manipulative game, but that was to be expected,? Jakeway said. ?The theme was to preserve the bureaucracy at all costs and to spend, spend, spend.

?Change does not come easy. With my business training I really did not expect a zero per cent tax increase but I know it was achievable.

?We can?t do it with these same people (at city hall).?

During budget deliberations, some councillors championed trusting city staff to build a budget, but Jakeway questioned that tactic.

He said staff played ?a game of divide and conquer and council fell for it?, referring to council?s 4-3 split in a vote which led to adoption of the budget.

Jakeway also accused city staff of biased public relations.

?The senior staff don?t get it, they really don?t,? he said. ?They don?t have the skill set, they cling to their policy documents.?

Jakeway acknowledged his words might rub some people the wrong way, but he kept going.

?I?m fully aware people on council and senior staff will not be happy with my comments,? he said. ?But have you ever been to city hall? How did you feel when you visited? The atmosphere is toxic, there has to be a change and it won?t necessarily be pretty. Things have to change come hell or high water.?

Jakeway then proceeded to list several expensive city projects that have had their share of controversy.

He noted the three-year anniversary of the Dogwood Street lights is quickly approaching and motorists still complain about the three-cycle system.

?How about the toilets from hell by the Art Gallery ... $90,000 for two toilets, an outdoor lacrosse for (more than $300,000); a $13.5 million Highway 19A upgrade and the lanes are too narrow and Spirit Square at roughly $1.7 million,? Jakeway said. ?I deal in facts, not emotions. I?m not unhappy or angry ... I know the system malfunctions.?

Jakeway said his dream would be to have a ?nimble? team to lead the city and boldly promote Campbell River to the world.

He would also like to change how taxpayers pay their property taxes to allow them to pay in monthly instalments.

The mayor also plans to improve the Campbellton area and tackle homelessness.

Jakeway said if Campbell Riverites work together the city can improve and the economy will rebound.

?My theme is ?Campbell River ? Oceans of Opportunity.? That?s on my business card.?

"The president has no plans to go to Bangkok," a senior government official said on condition of anonymity.

Thein Sein had been scheduled to make a speech about Myanmar?s promising future at the World Economic Forum on East Asia scheduled for Bangkok on Thursday and Friday.

The Thai government has also invited Myanmar?s president to visit the kingdom on Friday.

"Thein Sein?s planned visit was in response to joint invitation from the WEF and the Thai government," Foreign Ministry spokesman Thani Thongpakdi said. "We haven?t heard of a cancellation yet." Last week, the international forum invited Suu Kyi to the event,to the surprise of many including her own political party, the National League for Democracy (NLD).

Denver parade salutes service, sacrifices of veterans

Logan Sullivan waved at the passing parade, holding his miniature American flag in front of him as he inched his way toward the servicemen and woman who walked by.

When his father, T. Sgt. Matthew Sullivan, called him back, the 4-year-old took a seat on his father's knee while his dad explained the different uniforms and pointed to the polished cars.

"Today is letting him understand they are people you need to remember and give praise for what they've done," Sullivan said. "This isn't just a barbecue weekend."

The Memorial Day Remembrance Parade made its way through downtown Denver on Saturday, before wrapping around Civic Center. Families and veterans were scattered along the sidewalks along Broadway, between 14th and 13th avenues.

"We must pause to give thanks to the men and women who have given their lives and continue to fight," Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said before the parade began.

Sullivan, who has served 13 years in the U.S. Air Force and is currently stationed at Buckley Air Force Base, said more people should have been at the parade and ceremonies Saturday.

Before the parade, families of the men and women killed in action placed roses next to photos of their loved ones during the Wreath Remembrance Ceremony at the Colorado Veterans Monument in Lincoln Park.

The guest speaker, Col. Pat Blassie, commander of the Air Reserve Personnel Center at Buckley Air Force Base, spoke to the crowd about the importance of each story of every lost hero.

Blassie's brother, 1st Lt. Michael Blassie was killed in 1972 during the Vietnam War. Her family was told that her brother was killed in action and his body was never recovered.

"We tried to go on with our lives in so many ways," Blassie said.

Twenty-six years later, Blassie and her family learned that her brother's remains were interred in the Tomb of the Unknown Solider in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

Years after Michael Blassie's remains were returned to his family in St. Louis, his sister continues to tell his story.

"Each hero has a story," Pat Blassie said.

First video taken with Google Glasses shared

11 hrs.

Google has publicly unveiled new photos and the first video from the real view of their augmented reality glasses prototype. The images show what the wearer sees while reading a newspaper, catching a football in the backyard and helping a smiling child play on the jungle gym.

Such views don't necessarily represent anything people haven't seen before with head-mounted portable cameras. But they do hint at how Google Glasses could enable many people beyond geeky life-casters to capture a diverse array of moments in their lives ? the video shows the bouncy viewpoint of the Google Glasses wearer doing flips on a trampoline.

Google tech lead Max Braun showed off the photos and video at the Google + Photographer's Conference on May 23.

The Internet search giant has yet to show off real images or photos of how the glasses could seamlessly integrate virtual information with what a person sees in the real world. Its earlier unveiling of "Project Glass" included a concept video that imagined a wearer getting social calendar reminders and map directions in his field of view.

Still, many members of the public still seem enthusiastic about just having a pair of glasses with a small camera attached. One of the top comments on the YouTube video of the trampoline jumping simply stated "Shut up and take my money!"

The most popular comment of all had a perhaps tongue-in-cheek suggestion for using the Google Glasses ? "Good for POV [point-of-view] porn."

How Can We Cope with the Dirty Water from Fracking?

frackingFRACKED WATER: Hydraulic fracturing requires millions of liters of water, and some way of coping with the dirty water that results. Image: ? David Biello

Showcasing more than fifty of the most provocative, original, and significant online essays from 2011, The Best Science Writing Online 2012 will change the way...

The nation's oil and gas wells produce at least nine billion liters of contaminated water per day, according to an Argonne National Laboratory report. And that is an underestimate of the amount of brine, fracking fluid and other contaminated water that flows back up a well along with the natural gas or oil, because it is based on incomplete data from state governments gathered in 2007.

The volume will only get larger, too: oil and gas producers use at least 7.5 million liters of water per well to fracture subterranean formations and release entrapped hydrocarbon fuels, a practice that has grown in the U.S. by at least 48 percent per year in the last five years, according to the Energy Information Administration. The rise is quickest in places such as the oil-bearing Bakken Formation in North Dakota or the natural gas-rich Marcellus Shale underlying parts of New York State, Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

The problem is that the large volumes of water that flow back to the surface along with the oil or gas are laced with everything from naturally radioactive minerals to proprietary chemicals. And there are not a lot of cost-effective options for treating it, other than dumping it down a deep well. But as certain states that are experiencing drought begin to restrict industrial water usage, fossil-fuel companies are experimenting with traditional and untraditional water treatment chemistries and technologies to try to clean this dirty water?or limit its use in the first place.

Recycling is not enough
The first option is to reuse wastewater in whatever ways possible. For fracking, "to the extent possible, fracturing fluid is recovered and recycled for reuse in future fracturing operations," says Reid Porter, a spokesman for the American Petroleum Institute, an industry group. "Recycling of flow-back water reduces demand for freshwater and reduces the need for disposal of wastewater."

But that water still has to be cleaned before it is reused, otherwise it loses the ability to do its subterranean dirty work. Simply dumping it improperly is not an option, because the high levels of salts and minerals will poison a river, stream or aquifer or it will render land incapable of supporting life for generations, like the salt pans of Utah or the ancient farm fields of Carthage salted by the Roman army. The cleansing technologies employed range from high-tech membranes that selectively filter out specific contaminants to the crude solution of boiling away the water, leaving scales of salts and other minerals behind on the walls of the boiler.

"Most of what we get out of the water are salts and a low-level of organics" (hydrocarbons and other contaminating carbon-based molecules), explains environmental engineer Steve Hopper, executive vice president of the industrial business group at Veolia Water, which is helping oil and gas companies cope with such "produced" water. "We have an example in California where we treated the water until it was so pure we had to add minerals back into it to be able to discharge it." The problem, thus far, has been cost, although Hopper argues Veolia's technologies add only "5 percent" to the cost of a given well.

A diversity of waters
To add to the challenge of sheer volume, the water produced by each oil and gas well is often different?with varying levels of acidity, saltiness or types of contaminants, whether dissolved hydrocarbons or heavy metals leached from the surrounding rock.

Gingrich to appear at Trump fundraiser for Romney

Donald Trump and Newt Gingrich (Seth Wenig/AP)

Billionaire real estate investor and television personality Donald Trump is hosting a pricey fundraiser for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in Las Vegas next Tuesday, and Newt Gingrich is expected to make an appearance, Yahoo News has learned.

"Newt is expected to be there, along with many other well-known people," Michael Cohen, Trump's special counsel, told Yahoo News.

To co-chair the fundraiser at the Trump International Hotel, supporters are required to raise $50,000 on behalf of Romney's presidential campaign, according to the invitation to the event. A VIP reception with Romney costs $10,000 and the minimum donation to attend is $2,500.

Trump, who officially endorsed Romney in February, will play "a significant role" at the fundraiser, Cohen said.

In an interview with Newsmax Magazine, Trump said he was mulling the possibility of starting his own super PAC that would pay for television ads intended to influence the November election.

"My super PAC ads would be focused on how outside places and outside things are absolutely sucking the blood out of this country, and this country can't be great again unless it really starts to generate money," Trump said to Newsmax.

Cohen told Yahoo News that Trump is currently in the "beginning stage" of possibly forming the money-raising organization and would pour "significant" amounts of his own money into it.

"He has the paperwork within which to create the super PAC, but right now he's just reviewing them," Cohen said.

A spokesman from Romney's campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.
