Self-hypnosis and meditation stimulate right brain activity

There are two hemispheres in the brain: the left and the right.? Humans engage the left hemisphere more now than ever.

Left-brain activity includes verbal, analytical and intellectual thought. Activities include thinking, solving problems and organizing. An over-active left-brain, however, can often result in insomnia, fatigue, incessant mental activity and even high blood pressure.

Right brain activity is emotional and intuitive.? It is the side of the brain that is in charge of behavior.? Self-hypnosis and meditation stimulate right brain activity.? The more you practice right brain activities, the more at peace you will feel emotionally.

Meditation practice results in the ability to induce states of deep relaxation, which translates into rejuvenation of the body/mind almost like rebooting a computer.

By becoming a quiet observer of the thoughts of the mind, the very act of witnessing from an objective distance can alleviate negative thoughts and emotions.

Research about meditation indicates that regular meditation practice can dissolve feelings of separation, facilitate liberation from identification with past personal history and enhance feelings of empathy both for oneself and others.

Meditation and self-hypnosis differ in one essential way.? Meditation is simply non-doing. It is the act of sitting quietly, listening, feeling, seeing, experiencing everything happening inside your body and mind as it relates to the sounds and other energetic stimuli that surrounds you at any given moment.

Self-hypnosis, on the other hand directs the mind to imagine new beliefs or behaviors.? You can re-educate your unconscious mind to replace unwanted behaviors with new and different behaviors that align with your natural values.

It requires imagination of a positive state one aspires to attain.? Self-hypnosis is not only relaxing, it is the key factor in motivation and attitude shifts.

We regularly and unconsciously hypnotize ourselves all the time.? Every time you say, ?I could never do that? or ?I am always (fill in the blank),? you are hypnotizing yourself into a limited and finite identity.

Meditation Technique

Imagine a string pulling on top of your head holding your spine erect. Bring awareness to the sounds all around you, to the rhythm of your breath, the coolness of the air as you breathe in, to the warmth of the air as you breathe out.

Release the tension in your muscles. Focus on sounds, your breath or the rise and fall of your belly.? When the mind begins to think, bring the focus back to that sensory component.? Allow yourself to stop and simply BE.

Observe through your five senses, non-judgmentally.

Invite yourself to relax into the present. ?Just there, in the center of the all the activity, is a profound place of peace and calm.

Self-Hypnosis Technique

Relax the entire body from the feet up through the legs, hips, torso, the shoulders, down the arms and into the hands.? The more your hands relax, the more relaxed your neck and jaw become.

Continue to relax the mouth, cheeks, nose, muscles around the eyes, eyelids, eyebrows, forehead and scalp.? Imagine a staircase with ten steps leading downward to a door that opens into a comforting environment.

Walk down each step counting from one to ten, relaxing deeper with each count.? At the final count of ten imagine you already are, already do and already have everything that you want in your life.

Feel the emotions attached to these desires and embed them into your subconscious.? Imagine how you look, sound, move, how you talk to yourself and others and how you behave when you are functioning optimally.

When you feel satisfied, take yourself back up the stairs from ten to one feeling more and more energized and awake with each step until your eyes open and you feel refreshed at the count of one.

(AP) ? In the capital of one of the world's most dangerous countries, a hooded, masked man jumped out of a car on an assault mission.

His target: a crumbling wall on a garbage-strewn corner. With his accomplice acting as lookout, the man plastered a giant black-and-white reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" ? wielding a pink pistol. In minutes he was gone.

The city's self-proclaimed Urban Maeztro had struck again with another artistic "intervention" designed to make Hondurans think about the violence that has traumatized Tegucigalpa.

"The level of how common guns have become in this country has passed what is rationally admissible," said the 26-year-old graphic artist, who left his day job at an advertising agency to become the masked crusader. "It doesn't seem to surprise anyone, but for me it continues to be madness."

The artist uses the street name Urban Maeztro, a stylized translation of "Urban Master," to shield his true identity because the work is both dangerous and illegal.

The Honduran lacks the fame of the elusive British graffiti artist known only as Banksy, who has gained notoriety in Europe in recent years. Urban Maeztro said only his closest friends know that he launches the artistic assaults, dressed in a hoodie, his face covered with a kerchief depicting a skull.

The artist arrests passing viewers by defacing posters of artistic masterpieces, such as the Mona Lisa, with guns, grenades and other iconic tools of violence. He also employs more traditional graffiti, painting sections of metal light poles to look like bullets.

"There is a parallel between the brutal violation of a work so beautiful by adding a firearm and the violence and guns in Tegucigalpa, which could also be a beautiful city without them," he said.

His canvas is the streets of the Central American city of 1.2 million, which he describes as "captive, fearful and closed by a mixture of violence, poverty and an absence of public services." About 1,149 people were murdered in the Honduran capital last year, more than 87 for every 100,000. That's 10 times the rate considered an epidemic of violence by the World Health Organization ? a number that has doubled in the last five years.

As a result, Tegucigalpa's streets are typically empty, as are public squares and other traditional meeting spots. Most people congregate in giant, indoor American-style shopping malls guarded by men with automatic rifles.

During a recent graffiti assault, even passing motorists swerved at the sight of the hooded artist in a Honduras tourist T-shirt and paint-speckled cargo pants drawing on the city's walls.

A security guard watched as he plastered Grant Wood's "American Gothic" on a wall In front of the National University, completely absorbed.

"Who pays you to do that?" the guard asked.

"No one," the artist answered.

"Then why do it?"

"To help you think."

It worked, as the guard stood contemplating whether the old farm couple was holding M-16 rifles instead of pitch forks.

During a recent interview, the commando artist smiled easily and never raised his voice as he described his mission with Zen-like tranquility. He said he started the guerrilla attacks in October when he got tired of working a high-pressure agency job creating art for advertisements.

"In a country that's sinking, using art to boost consumption rather than to provoke social change became unbearable for me," he said.

Now working fewer hours at a cultural center, he has more time and greater flexibility for his project.

Standing over a gas stove in the outdoor garden of a friend's home in Tegucigalpa's historic center, the artist stirred a boiling pot of the glue he uses to affix his posters. Laundry dried in the sun on a nearby clothesline.

The artist said the catalyst for his mission as an anonymous urban artist came when he entered a UNESCO poster contest on cultural diversity. When he lost the contest, he decided that the institutional doors for supporting his idea were closed.

"The natural place for art is the street, forget the middleman," he said.

Since then he's created a dynamic that includes making his own glue by boiling wheat and water, which he said is "the best adhesive and cheap," and roaming the city on Sunday afternoons seeking vacant walls and inspiration. His accomplice, the documentarian Junior Alvarez, keeps watch while he works, then photographs the final piece.

"At first I had anxiety when I went into the streets," the artist said, "but now I'm used to the adrenaline."

Art critic Bayardo Blandino, curator of the Women in the Arts museum, said that Urban Maeztro's style of graffiti is new to Honduras, and that he is pushing the limits on the country's freedom of expression.

"If he continues with perseverance, he will get a loyal following and have an effect," said Blandino, who does not know Urban Maeztro's true identity.

During a social gathering on a recent Saturday night, traditional graffiti artists criticized his work for mixing formats and material and not sticking to pure graffiti art. Unknown to them, the man who paints as Urban Maeztro was among them.

He doesn't want his interventions to seem naive. He knows art won't diminish the number of weapons or improve education in his country.

But it's possible, he said, to "provoke reflection about these problems, the first step for citizens to develop a critical awareness. Everything in street art is context."

In an area of the city that houses some of Tegucigalpa's most elegant hotels, the Urban Maeztro plastered an image of Rene Magritte's "Son of Man," substituting a grenade for the apple covering the face of the suited subject in a bowler hat.

Three students smoking marijuana under the trees didn't hesitate to comment.

"Those responsible for the violence in Honduras are hidden, we don't know their faces, but they're powerful, they wear suits and ties," said one of the students, Gerson Ortiz.

If death is part of everyday life in Honduras, then Urban Maeztro says his work should be about "breaking the daily macabre by changing its meaning."

Doing his work is not easy in a country that experienced a coup three years ago and is now plagued by daily murders, many of them blamed on the police.

The violence has directly touched the artist, who remembers one night when he heard a car slowing down behind him as he was working.

"I looked back just in time to see someone lower the window and stick out a gun," he said. "He shot at me three times without a word. He didn't get me. I was really lucky."

The boy with the dragon tattoo: 13-year-old sparks criminal probe A Washington state teen decided to celebrate surviving a bout with cancer with six inches of ink. Now police want to know where he got the body art.

A 13-year-old boy is at the heart of a police investigation after he got a 6-inch tattoo of a dragon to celebrate surviving cancer.

The Washington state teen, who was diagnosed with leukemia before the age of two, got the body art while on vacation with a family friend several months ago, KING 5 reported.

The boy decided to get the dragon ink as a "badge of honor," according to his mom, who wished to remain anonymous.

"He actually thought I was going to be proud of him," she told the local station.

"What he thought was a good thing, is now turning into a really bad thing, and it is not at all how he wanted it to be. It's done. I can't do anything about it."

A family friend who saw the ink notified Centralia, Wash., police, Sgt. Pat Fitzgerald said.

But the boy has remained tight-lipped on who tattooed him.

Washington tattoo shops are prohibited from allowing minors to go under the needle.

There are currently 383 tattoo parlors and 1,124 licensed artists in the state, which just started licensing the tattoo business two years ago.

The state Department of Licensing will follow the police's investigation and decide whether to punish the artist or the shop with a fine or suspension, spokeswoman Christine Anthony said.

Police initially feared that the parents, who have eight children and have been visited previously by Child Protective Services for a welfare check, encouraged the boy to get inked, Fitzgerald said.

But authorities soon realized that the boy's parents weren't aware of his plans to get tatted.

"The parents were not happy about it," he said. "The parents would not have allowed or condoned it."

The dragon tattoo, however, is not the first time the teen has been inked nor is he the only one in his family to sport a tattoo.

The boy got a heart-shaped tattoo on his ankle last year in Texas to signify an unspecified medical crisis, Fitzgerald said.

The mother, who got a matching tat, thought it was legal for a minor to get inked in Texas with parental permission.

The boy's 15-year-old brother also got a tattoo recently from the same Washington tattoo artist and the mother is not particularly happy about that either.

Both boys have been grounded this summer as punishment, Fitzgerald said.

Young Stranger: 750

Seven hundred fifty is the number, in a new survey of individuals identifying as both LGBT/SSA and Mormon, who reported having spiritual experiences in which they were reassured by their Heavenly Father that their gayness was a good and intrinsic part of who they are.? This was 47% of a sample of 1600 respondents to an in-depth survey that covered information about early perceptions of sexual difference, sexual identity formation, efforts to cope with sexual orientation, and the role of faith in all of this.? Preliminary findings from the survey were presented by John Dehlin and Bill Bradshaw at this year's Sunstone Symposium.

That number made me feel much less alone.? I had a very powerful (and unexpected) experience of this nature in 1986 (as I've described in my spiritual autobiography).? For many years, I was the only person I knew who had had such an experience.? Gradually, over the years, I read of or encountered others who shared experiences of a similar nature.? I've encountered these types of stories often enough to realize that they are not uncommon.? Still, 47% out of a group of 1600 gay men and lesbians seemed like an astonishing number to me.

Any reckoning of the ultimate significance of this number, however, will need to account for the fact that 16% of survey respondents reported receiving spiritual confirmation that God rejected their homosexuality.? The apparent conflict highlights the challenges of validating spiritual experiences and evaluating them in a broad context.

The other presented data I found interesting had to do with respondents' reported levels of happiness and quality of life.? This is the first time I've seen the different relationship configurations of gay men and lesbians evaluated in this way.? Single or celibate gay men and lesbians reported the least happiness.? Gay men and lesbians in mixed orientation marriages reported the next lowest levels of happiness.? Gay men and lesbians in some sort of committed relationship reported quality of life slightly less than healthy heterosexual married individuals.? Gay men and lesbians who were legally married reported levels of happiness comparable to or even slightly higher than healthy, married heterosexuals.

What I thought noteworthy about this is the fact that while, on average, gay or lesbian individuals in mixed orientation marriages reported lower quality of life than gay or lesbian individuals in committed same-sex relationships or in same-sex marriages (or, for that matter, married heterosexual individuals), they were still happier than single/celibate gays and lesbians.? This is logical, when one considers the fact that needs for human touch and companionship will be fulfilled even in a less than ideal marital relationship.

This data confirms the observation that the Church's recent emphasis on celibacy as the only acceptable option for gay and lesbian individuals is unlikely to deter individuals from entering into mixed orientation marriages.? Since the Church's emphasis on singleness/celibacy for gays and lesbians effectively consigns them to the most stressful and unhappy life status, no one should wonder why, if gay individuals don't opt for a mixed orientation marriage, the vast majority eventually end up leaving the Church if a same-sex relationship is an option.

I think these data also beg the question: If singles (gay and straight) are the most unhappy of these demographic groups, how have we as a Church/society failed singles?? These are the individuals that demand our most serious and immediate attention.? What can we do to address this problem?? Are our families, Churches and social groups configured in such a way as to create or exacerbate the unhappiness measured in this survey?? And if so, what do we need to do to change that?

Finally, these data speak to the question of why legal relationship recognition in the form of full marriage equality matters.? Based on the data that was presented, it's impossible to know conclusively why legally married same-sex couples reported higher levels of happiness than same-sex couples who were only in extra-legal committed relationships.? Is it because commitment in the form of marriage offered a greater sense of security and stability in the relationship?? Is it because gay couples who are legally married are more likely to live in states where society treats them as equals?? Whatever the case, it seems to me that any commonwealth that claims to be concerned about the well being of all its citizens, needs to consider the impact that denying marriage rights will have on the health and well being of its gay citizens.

Parenthetically, it's worth considering the implications of this data about quality of life and happiness for religious beliefs about homosexuality.? Religious opponents of same-sex relationships have always argued that a lifetime of diminished happiness is a small price to pay for exaltation in eternity.? Regardless of what the data say, in other words, we still have to wrestle with larger questions about the meaning of suffering, and the relationship between holiness and happiness.

I think it's worth noting that I did experience an increase in personal happiness after I found and made a commitment to my life partner, G?ran.? However, I feel like my level of happiness in life increased even more dramatically after I opened myself up to wrestling with what my testimony of the Gospel and of the LDS Church meant to me as a gay man, and after I started attending Church and applying Gospel principles to my life.? Our decision to get legally married and the personal satisfaction I've derived from getting married are connected to my faith.? In other words, I am happy to the extent I am able to live a life of integrity and wholeness -- in my relationship with my husband, as well as in my relationship with God and with my community of faith.

None of the data presented by Bro. Dehlin and Bro. Bradshaw free us of the responsibility of wrestling with difficult questions.? Data never just speak for themselves.? All the same, it is helpful to have data.? With or without the data, we still have to wrestle with the questions of meaning.? But it is better to wrestle with these questions in the presence of good data, than with no data or bad data.? I've personally wrestled with a lot of these questions, and I've for the most part found resolutions to the most troubling questions, and Bro. Dehlin's and Bro. Bradshaw's data offered me some helpful perspectives on my own experience.

How to talk to your Mac: Using diction effectively

6 hrs.

One of the more useful and interesting features in OS X Mountain Lion is Dictation, which allows you to speak to your Mac and have your words translated to text. It's system-wide, and works in any app where text can be entered. Before you dive in and start speaking to your Mac, here's how to use it to its fullest.

If you've used a tool like Dragon Naturally Speaking, Siri on your iPhone, or Google Voice Actions (or another personal assistant) on your Android phone, you know how Dictation works already. The difference here is that instead of using Dictation to issue commands, search the web, or call friends, it's ideal for writing documents, commenting on articles, and turning your thoughts into blocks of text anywhere text can be entered. Here's how to set it up.

Enable Dictation in System Preferences

  1. Click the Apple Menu and select System Preferences
  2. Under "System" click "Dictation and Speech."
  3. Toggle Dictation from Off (default) to On.
  4. Optional: Change the default keyboard shortcut to enable dictation?if you use an external keyboard, you may not have a dedicated function button.

Once enabled, tap the function key (FN) twice (or whichever shortcut you selected) to start or stop Dictation. You can also skip System Preferences entirely by tapping the function key twice from any window, but we think the long way is best so you can change the shortcut if you want.

Keep in mind that when you use Dictation, your words (and some other data) are sent to Apple to be translated into text?much like when you use Siri. Apple says the data is used to improve voice recognition only, and not associated with any other information Apple may have about you.

Use a Headset or Microphone
In the Dictation and Speech preferences, you have the choice to switch the input used for dictation to your Mac's line-in over the internal microphone. Unless you're sitting right in front of your Mac all the time, we'd suggest using a headset or dedicated microphone when you're working with Dictation. Using the internal mic isn't bad, but using a headset is definitely better and in our tests led to fewer skipped or incorrect words. Of course, common sense also applies: speak loudly and clearly when working with dictation and you'll have better luck. No mumbling!

Don't forget punctuation and commands
Remember, the dictation tool translates your words into text?it doesn't know much about grammar. That means if you want a comma in a sentence, or want to end a sentence with a period or exclamation point, you have to say it aloud for the app to understand what you want. It''s tricky to get into the habit of saying things like?"Dear Adam comma new line thank you for sending this over to me period it's a huge help exclamation point"?but you'll get the hang of it. The result, of course, would be:

Dear Adam,

Thank you for sending this over to me. It's a huge help!

Dictation does a good job of recognizing proper nouns and capitalizing them, and can even recognize your contacts' names and proper spellings. Here are some other helpful commands to remember:

  • "All Caps"?turns all of the following text into ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
  • "New Paragraph", as the name implies, starts a new paragraph.
  • "New Line"?inserts a carriage return.
  • Dollar amounts and dates are automatically recognized, so saying "thirteen dollars and twenty five cents" will appear as "$13.25," and "july twenty-fifth twenty-twelve at 9 PM" will appear "July 25, 2012 at 9PM."
  • "Smiley" and "Frowny" correspond to their emoticons, and are displayed as ":-)" and ":-(" respectively.
  • Punctuation like "comma", "period", and "quotation mark", all work the way you would expect.

Dictation works out of the box. You don't need to train it with your voice, and while it does get better over time as it learns your voice, it's not like many mobile assistants that need hours of input before they work effectively. Best of all, it supports US, UK, and Australian English, so an accent from any of those locations won't matter much. If you use your Mac in a different language, Dictation also supports French, German, and Japanese, and will enter text spoken in those languages correctly.

Ask Engadget best case for the Samsung Galaxy S III

We know you've got questions, and if you're brave enough to ask the world for answers, here's the outlet to do so. This week's Ask Engadget inquiry is coming to us from is from Amandeep, who needs a case for his new superphone. If you're looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.

"Hey guys, I just snagged myself a new Galaxy S III, but I'm at a loss when it comes to deciding on a case. I'm looking for something that falls between the typical silicone wrap and a full-on army grade rubber block of invincibility. It needs to provide sufficient protection from the occasional drop or two while staying relatively sleek and somewhat stylish. That said, my last phone was a Thunderbolt with an extended battery, so it's safe to say that I won't mind a bit of thickness. I've had my eye on a Shell-Gel series case from Ballistic, but I'm still in need of suggestions. Any ideas?"

How about it peeps? What do you use to protect your Galaxy S III that you'd recommend to another? Constructive suggestions are always welcomed.

Amendment 1 to the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations BS7671

Electricians may find this article useful as a reference to the 17th edition Amendment 1 changes to the UK Wiring Regulations BS7671.

The Electrical Wiring Regulations BS7671 now includes Amendment 1 to further harmonize with the European electrical IEC and CENELEC HD60384 standards. The Amendment 1 requirements came into effect from the 1st January 2012.

The main changes to the regs consist of:

  • A new numbering system
  • A new Section 444 for measures against electromagnetic disturbances and
  • Surge Protection Devices
  • Part 5 covering Prefabricated Wiring Systems
  • Part 6 introducing the new Electrical Installation Condition Reports
  • Part 7 includes new Special Locations for Medical and Operating and
  • Maintenance Gangways
  • Additional Appendices relevant to the latest changes

New Numbering System

The new regulation numbering system ending in 100,101 etc. has been introduced for ?UK only? national regs. For example regulations such as 553.1.100 regarding shuttered socket outlets would apply to the UK only.

Electromagnetic Disturbances

The new section 4, with details in Section 5 for SPDs (Surge Protection Devices), covers sensitive equipment that may be damaged by surges such as overvoltages and lightning strikes.

Prefabricated Wiring

Prefabricated wiring systems which are intended for permanent connection are covered in Section 5. Cables installed in ceilings and floors should be run to avoid damage from contact with building materials. Also all connections and terminations must be accessible for inspection and testing unless they are of a maintenance free type.

EICR

The biggest change to the 17th edition affecting many electricians is the new Electrical Installation Condition Reports. The EICRs are now to be used for compiling and submitting information in place of the old type Periodic Inspection Reports. The purpose of the EICR is to improve the standard of periodic reporting and make the reports easier for consumers to understand. The results of inspections have been given new observation codes and the schedule of inspections has been revised.

Additional Special Locations

Part 7 includes new Special Locations for Medical (710) and Operating and Maintenance Gangways (729). Medical locations is now segregated into 3 zones which are determined by the medical procedures to be carried out. The gangways section sets out the minimum distances between equipment such as switchgear and the fabric of the building.

Appendices

Amendment 1 includes 16 Appendices which reflect the additional content. Content from Appendices 11 and 12 has been moved to Appendix 4 Current Carrying Capacity and Voltage Drop.

You can find more useful information about the BS7671 Wiring Regulations at Electrician?s Blog.

Obama and Romney fight for suburban women in Colo.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) ? If President Barack Obama wins this swing-voting state, and a second term as president, voters like Paula Burky will probably be the reason.

"He understands women," said Burky, a Westminster resident who last month decided to vote for Obama.

Both the Democratic president and his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, see women ? specifically suburbanites from their 30s to their 50s ? as critical to victory in Colorado as well as in other hard-fought places like Virginia and Nevada where polls also show close contests. That means this group of voters may also hold the key to winning the White House.

The state of the campaign in the sprawling Denver region ? modest neighborhoods and upscale subdivisions near the city give way to retail complexes, industrial parks and front-range ranches at the outskirts ? illustrates how the fight is playing out across the nation, and how both candidates are seeking to woo these female voters in different ways.

Obama has stirred passions among Colorado women by stoking fears about abortion rights, spending the past few weeks sharply criticizing Romney in ads for proposing to eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood and opposing the Supreme Court's landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

Romney, in turn, has paid for mail and automated calls in Colorado decrying Obama's handling of the sluggish economy's effect on women.

Just over 100 days until the election, polls in Colorado show a close race, though it's unclear how the electorate's psyche will be impacted by last week's shooting massacre at a suburban Denver movie complex and a summer wildfire season that has scorched countless homes and businesses.

For now at least, Obama has had the edge over female voters nationally and he is focusing on a particularly promising subset: college-educated women. Fifty-five percent of college-educated women preferred Obama in a June Associated Press-GfK poll, while 40 percent preferred Romney.

Women with college degrees make up 27 percent of Colorado voters, according to exit polls from the 2008 election, higher than the national average of 23 percent. That puts Colorado in league with other prime Romney-Obama targets, Virginia and New Hampshire.

Burky is among those who have gravitated toward Obama. She and her husband were unemployed for eight months until recently, while their teenage daughter was recovering from cancer. Burky was swayed by Obama's action last spring ? opposed by Romney ? to make it easier for women to obtain birth control, a move she said has economic repercussions.

"If women are choosing abortion because they are in dire economic straits, I have a moral obligation to vote for the candidate who is going to help them," Burky said.

Jill Wildenburg, an Obama supporter who lives in Englewood, calls the president's focus "huge because if women's reproductive rights are marginalized, then women are marginalized."

To press his argument that he's on the side of women, Obama sponsored a national women's summit last month in Colorado ? in Jefferson County ? featuring senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett and "Desperate Housewives" actress Eva Longoria. The week before he dispatched first lady Michelle Obama to Arapahoe High School in Centennial.

Obama is partly borrowing from the playbook of Colorado Democrat Michael Bennet's winning U.S. Senate race in 2010. Bennet narrowly beat Ken Buck after painting him as extreme in pointed TV ads about the Republican's opposition to abortion rights and popular forms of birth control. He carried Arapahoe and Jefferson counties by a combined 10,000 votes, about a third of his narrow margin over Buck.

"That portrayal of Buck is what beat him," said Democratic pollster Paul Harstad, an adviser to Bennet who also does polling for Obama's campaign.

Some Romney backers argue that Obama is attempting to distract female voters from the economy by emphasizing abortion.

"It has nothing to do with abortion," said Vickie Dow of Centennial, an upscale Arapahoe County suburb. "I'm worried about the economy. I'm really afraid things have gone downhill terribly."

Unemployment in Colorado was 8.2 percent in June, the same as nationally. It has ticked up slightly statewide and proportionally in Arapahoe and Jefferson counties, Denver's south and west suburbs where more than 20 percent of the state's population lives, after a slow decline over the past year when it dipped below the national average.

Romney, meanwhile, is seeking to court women like Debbie Brown of Centennial. She agrees with Republican pollsters who say that women are more acutely aware of economic ups and downs. Often household budget managers, women are more sensitive to fluctuations in the economy and see them as destabilizing to their families.

"It actually becomes a heart issue for them because they care so much about their families," said Brown, whose husband recently began working again after being unemployed for nine months.

Four years ago, Obama carried Colorado, which offers nine Electoral College votes, by 9 percentage points. The outcome in November is expected to be much closer, with recent public polls showing a tight race.

Romney views Colorado, which Republicans carried in every presidential election from 1968 to 2004, as a valuable potential pick-up. Obama aides argue that his 2008 victory is proof the Southwest's Republican trend is changing as Latinos, who typically vote Democratic, increase in numbers.

The candidates and their allies have combined to spend roughly $25 million in television advertising in Colorado ? split nearly evenly between the two.

An Introduction To The Commercial Mortgage Loans | Class Act ...

It is similar to the normal home loan where the lender is in charge of the titles of the asset. The loan mortgage lender may decide to dispose of the asset if you default. They are integral to the funding of commercial real estate schemes. They represent the debt secured by the current or potential property. Adequate debt incurred as a result of attractive interest rates can increase the yield of the scheme. This will be achieved by reducing the investors? equity, reducing risk and allowing more cash for investor capital for future schemes launch. It is therefore prudent that you find a financial lender that is favorable to the successful financing of the scheme without imperiling you stake.

Normally this type of refinancing is meant to enable you purchase a place to do business. Amount borrowed can also be used to purchase a commercial place to let. You can also decide to use the borrowed amount in building funds for you business related costs. The repayment of this loan lies squarely on the shoulders of the trader. The sole borrower runs a risk of losing his personal property in the event of a foreclosure. If the loan was borrowed by partners then the liabilities extend is spread across the members.

In the case of a limited company, the liability lies with the respective business and not the people operating it. This deviates from the liability attached to sole proprietorship businesses and partnerships which place the liability on the owners of the business. The company offering the loan may ask for personal guarantees and surety if the business setup in the profit-making property consists of limited funds.

If the amount borrowed is guaranteed against assets then the guarantee giver runs a risk of losing his property. There are many types of mortgage loans that one may opt for. The own use commercial loan is used by a sole proprietor to finance his own business. While the commercial investment loans let borrowers put their money to lease or rent. The only catch in this type of financing is that the borrower has to make extensive citations related to the utilization of the leased asset. Before being financed the lending company will assess the credibility of both the company and the business owners.

In the case of a limited liability companies the credit details of the top management and any other relevant governing body will be assessed. To minimize the risk of defaulting, most lenders are interested in the money involved and not the commercial property. A foreclosure is a very expensive exercise that does not benefit either party. This explains the reason why lending companies try to minimize the risks associated with defaulting.

Road traffic injuries are one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, but estimates on the burden of injury in the developing world are often inaccurate or insufficient.? In Kenya estimates on the burden road traffic injuries exist, but are more than 10 years old, making it difficult to demonstrate the magnitude of the problem to decision-makers in the country. Clipping nails, going barefoot and other office don'ts

Getty Images stock

Want to get ahead at work? Put your shoes on, and save your nail clipping for after hours.

By Allison Linn, TODAY

?Lori Hong was never particularly fond of the co-worker in the next cubicle, but there was one thing that really put her over the edge.

?He would freaking cut his nails at his desk,? said Hong, 32.

The nail clipping wasn?t just an occasional thing, either.

?I don?t know what vitamins (he was) taking, but he would clip his nails like two or three times a week,? she recalled.

After living in fear of a cuticle flying over the cubicle wall, or just of hearing that unmistakable clipping sound, Hong, who worked scheduling commercials for a television network, finally asked to be relocated to a new desk.

?No one should be doing that at work,? she said.

Workplace etiquette experts -- and much of the general public -- would agree. A survey of workplace pet peeves, released this week by temporary staffing firm Adecco, found nearly half of those surveyed are offended when people clip or bite their nails at work.

?It really elicits that gross factor because it is personal grooming,? said Jodi R.R. Smith, president of the etiquette training firm Mannersmith. ?This is what I categorize as: Should take place in the bathroom, and preferably the bathroom at home.?

Public nail-clipping is such a common problem that Smith sometimes uses it as an example in a role play on how to get a co-worker to stop doing something that annoys you.

Her advice: Be direct.

For example: ?I know that you probably have no idea, but when you clip your nails in the cubicle it totally grosses me out. I?m all for good grooming ? but if you could do it in the ladies room or at home I?d really appreciate it.?

Smith started her Boston-area etiquette consulting business after dealing so often with issues like these while working in human resources. She said other common workplace gripes include people who floss their teeth at their desk or take off their shoes at work.

The Adecco survey also found that more than four in 10 people were offended by co-workers removing their shoes at the office. The telephone survey of 1,010 people, conducted in July, also found that the majority of those surveyed do not want to see you come to work in ripped jeans, flip-flops, strapless clothing or backless tops or dresses.

It can be tempting to slip off your shoes on a hot day, or even clip that offending cuticle without heading to the bathroom, but that can actually harm your career, Smith warns.

?People think, ?Oh I?m a good worker, it?s not that big a deal,? but I?ve had managers over and over again tell me, ?Oh, Jodi, when we have to do another reduction I know who?s first on my list,?? Smith said. ?These soft social skills really make a difference.?

Tim Gates has seen plenty of workplace faux pas in his 17 years placing temporary workers for Adecco. Nail clipping and shoe removal have come up, as well as people applying deodorant at their desks and those who show up in T-shirts with inappropriate slogans or logos.

Usually a quick chat about appropriate dress or behavior is enough to straighten things out. But a little common sense might help avoid such issues as well.

?Some things should be done at home and some things should be done at work,? he said. ?Maybe keep those things separate.?

As for Hong, the cubicle dweller with the nail-clipping neighbor, she?s since left that job and moved from New York to Philadelphia because her husband was transferred.

She?s currently looking for work, and she jokes that one of the things she?s watching out for is whether her prospective co-workers clip their nails at their desks.

?Like, do you have that keychain with the nail clipper on it? That would be a turnoff,? she joked.

What hygiene habit bothers you most in the office?

TODAY's Meredith Vieira takes a look at some of the daily annoyances her co-workers face in their office space.

Then we woke a day later to a slew of realizations: the unit is hard to upgrade, software isn't optimized for the new display, and repairs will be expensive, if not impossible. Then we heard that some Retina screens were having color issues. So we rioted. We hated it for being limited, for not being the sexy woman she promised she was the night before.

A Short Guide on Email Encryption and Other Crucial Security ...

An entrepreneurs day spent looking at and working through a huge selection of emails is a day lost since they are able to do more with their time. Fortunately, email encryption, anti-spam, and electronic mail archiving can help organize e-mails to offer better productivity for businesses.

Hindering Unsolicited mail

Junk mail is unsolicited email messages sent to email users. These emails mostly focus on certain users inside of a particular market, while some focus on any person at random. Its main purpose is to market a product, services, or business advertised by a specific firm. This company really wants to get more clients to acquire much more profits. Electronic mails without any valuable email filtering cant sort which emails are junk mail or not.

Junk mail companies can also differ. Certain internet-based gaming players, for instance, may well send e-mail messages to market a website, blog site, and so forth. Cell phone users could also acquire unsolicited mail SMS randomly. When this happens, rates may apply and the customer winds up having to pay extra amounts.

Even though sent or received junk e-mail could be innocuous, an inbox filled with these types of e-mailmessages is irritating. Checking out the stated emails might be monotonous since you make an effort to arrive at significant electronic mails. In some cases, deficiency of spam blocker could also prove damaging. E-mails with spyware and adware can damage your personal computer or a system fast. Spyware and adware can even cause record losses and such event simply leaves you vulnerable and open as a firm. Files lost can mean inability to negotiate sales conflicts since you dont possess the paperwork to back your statement. It can possibly cause lawsuits if unscrupulous email users got your client information and other relevant info.

This matter is a sure-fire way to spend far more. Your organization will probably need fixes and resetting at this point. Repairing data on your own may also indicate spending on overtime work. Worse, you can also need legal counsel to ward off suits when they appear.

E-mail Message Encryption and Data Archiving

email encryption is a strategy of sending encoded email messages. Authorized readers have the key to open the program code and thereby read its total contents. When hacked or acquired by the incorrect recipient, message will be more challenging to read. Many e-mail file encryption software have specific restrictions. Some software may not permit printing of the e-mail message when unauthorized.

email archiving solutions concerns keeping and protecting messages. This ensures data files are typically in certain semblance of order for future retrieval. Certain software applications might do this by way of cloud storage to allow online entry anytime. They may furthermore set restricted access through limited account passwords.

Simple guidelines

False positive concerns authentic emails removed by the anti-spam software. While you buy, look at the statistics offered by merchants in regards to this feature. If at all possible, lower number of false positives is preferable to decrease the likelihood of getting rid of crucial communications. When it comes to encryption and archiving, consider the fundamental principles prior to you buying state-of-the-art solutions. From time to time, fundamental functions may well already have the solutions youll need and this might be less costly.

Supplier status also counts so check with friends and colleagues if they are aware of solid sellers. You may also do your very own research by appraising studies and press information on top companies. Compare prices, packages, buyer guarantees to guard your interests.

Do not forget that article My partner and i authored regarding making use of optimistic encouragement to deal with lack of control? Effectively, naturally the actual scenario within it has been hypothetical (your part concerning the snakes). That's not saying it will not function, given it absolutely would likely. On the other hand, as it had been hypothetical I wanted to give you a real history employing established conditioning with a feral cat. instrumental conditioning examples We now have experienced any kitty for a number of years that is feral. She's put in most your ex time with our various other pet cats who had been not really feral. Simply because the girl were living with these it turned out challenging to teach the girl even as did not have place to split up these people. Just lately the girl very last close friend passed on. Ever since then My spouse and i imagined exactly how unhappy the lady must be simply by herself. In addition, jane is ageing, so the prospects for being forced to medicate the girl at some time was fairly selected. Understanding that I had to identify a method to educate this particular cat who used to cover inside her cubbyhole. She ended up being so afraid in which simply all of us walking the stairs might send out your ex rushing straight into your ex feline house. Step one has been to get a thing she enjoyed. She did not need foodstuff once i ended up being about so that had been out and about. Kitten goodies, similar to Greenies, had been unpredictable. Often she would consider them, at times not necessarily. Exactly what I came across although, is actually that the lady wants to end up being brushed! I came across a smooth bristle remember to brush that i could use on her behalf butt because the lady leaped past. Pretty soon the girl began to work slower past us therefore i may brush the girl a lot more. Step 2 ended up being for you to just clean the girl because the lady went in the direction of me personally, and not faraway from me personally. Pretty soon she was coming onto sniff our footwear as i seated generally there along with cleaned the girl. And then the girl was massaging the woman's deal with in to the clean and keeping in close proximity to us with regard to units at any given time. To go to feel the girl I might comb your ex when, next work my hands along the girl again & immediately remember to brush the girl once more. At some time with this process she did start to purr. The lady had by no means purred ahead of, and right here she was purring way up a new tornado whilst My spouse and i brushed her from confront to tail. It absolutely was a good thing I commenced all of this, due to the fact even though this was happening she grew to be hyperthyroid and today must be medicated everyday. During the past while the lady needed prescription medication I needed to spray it on her coat & desire your woman licked enough away in order to perform the job. Currently it's very important your woman acquire almost all her treatment since it can affect the woman's kidneys also. The task to give the girl the particular treatment goes such as this. Your woman loves program therefore i enter into her room wherever her feline stuff will be. The girl incurs the restroom along with sits lower. I walk as much as the girl, available the girl oral cavity along with spray the medication in. I then remember to brush her at the least until eventually the girl purrs. Then the girl goes back in to the girl place. The girl likes this regimen now, though she is not jogging from me personally because jane is terrified, she still incurs the bathroom being medicated. And then, previous thirty day period the physician stated it will be wonderful only may commence supplying the woman's sub-cutaneous body fluids, which means My partner and i will have to stay any needle under the girl skin color. Yikes!!! I'd personally carried out the idea using the various other cats, but in the event you had inquired us half a year previously if she could easily get compared to that place I'd personally have wager income versus that. However realized if the San diego Zoo can easily train a new diabetic goof to set the arm right into a conduit for a body analyze daily, I will train a house kitty to just like creating a hook caught up throughout her! The procedure travelled similar to this: She would come across the bathroom on her behalf thyroid medication, I might close up the threshold thus she couldn't keep. I might administer the particular substance after that brush her till the girl purred. After that, although seated on the ground along with the girl I'd personally pick up a little part of epidermis as i might if i ended up being placing any filling device inside. Ahead of the lady may reply I would clean the girl & release your skin layer. Do it again quite a few times as long as she failed to try to manage. . always quit prior to it got a chance to that point. Following a handful of reps the lady may come back to the woman's place. The final action had been to really set your filling device in & supply body fluids although My spouse and i comb the woman's. At this time she is not necessarily sitting down in my clapboard since the other felines does. She actually is lying down on to the floor looking at us even though My partner and i clean the girl & adhere your ex using a filling device. Twice a day she is making it possible for me to accomplish this, as well as your woman purrs the entire period. The girl knows what is coming however the lady even now switches into the toilet, lies on to the floor, along with waits for me to put fluids in to your ex. The veterinarian lately told me the girl kitten operates through the woman's while the lady tries to give him liquids. My partner and i thought just how unhappy then it can be very easy to produce that nice and also a smaller amount stressful for everybody engaged. The real key should be to come across something the cat or perhaps other pet wants a whole lot and also make it happen in the course of or following whatever the observed nasty thing can be. The kitty, puppy, ferret, no matter what, will probably be far better off for it and it won't be a real have difficulty for you. Post by mke41wapwa (2012-07-24 17:20)
