More people read yesterday?s blog post than any other blog post before it.
Apologies for starting today?s blog in a self-congratulatory tone but I do find that team is the one subject that business owners really thirst for knowledge.? The business owner that has told me that they are excellent at team building and recruitment are few and far between.? Yes, great at what they do, or great at sales and marketing or systems but team building and team management, not so much.
Many business owners carry on as if team building were a necessary evil or a task that has to be completed even though there are plenty of other more interesting things to focus on.? But if you want to grow your business, you need leverage.? You can leverage through other people?s money, technology or people but for the vast majority of businesses, building and managing team will be central to its success.
Here?s why?.
Let?s say, your daily output is 100.? It doesn?t matter what the 100 stands for, lets just assume that on any given day, you could produce 100.? How much could you increase this by?? So let?s say, you really work hard tomorrow and absolutely go for it.? How much can you increase your performance by?? 150?? Probably a 50% increase is doable but difficult to sustain.? Let?s say that you could do it every day though, your output is now 150.
It?s difficult to see it going past 150.
So how about with team?
Your output can go from 100 to 100,000.?
That is the nature of building teams in your business.? You are leveraging your skills and abilities through people development.? The rewards are great for anybody that can do this.
So, don?t be like the average business owner, who moans and complains about their staff.? Get great at recruitment, get focussed on team building.? However well you think you are doing now, you will be able to do much, much, much better with a fantastic team around you.
Unfortunately, you get the team you deserve.? How good is your team?
